I hired Stephen to conduct survey and design work for the general renovation and lower ground floor extension of a Grade 2 listed Georgian residential building in Camberwell. In 2016 I engaged Stephen Read to design a kitchen and loft conversion for my terraced property in Parsons Green. He came highly recommended by a friend of mine who is also an architect. Stephen came for a number of planning visits to my property, often out of hours as I was working full time so could not make appointments in work time. He was thoughtful and a good listener. He quickly got the measure of what was needed, and came up with a plan that was within budget, fulfilled the list of requirements and included some good adaptations of the house to maximise the space. He communicated his plans clearly and concisely and worked to agreed timeframes. He was open to making changes and liaising with the project manager for the contractors to make sure the job ran as smoothly as possible. The project was a great success. It ran to time and budget. The drawings and designs Stephen and his team came up with were great. The changes added an extra bedroom and bathroom and lots of bonus storage space in the loft of my house and modernised and extended the kitchen on the ground floor. In 2018 we instructed Stephen to work on an extension of our top floor flat in Dalston. Stephen reconfigured the existing flat and designed the new floor creating a fantastic new living space for us.
We previously had a scheme rejected by the local council but Stephen managed to successfully negotiate to achieve the planning approval.
Importantly he turned it around very quickly. He understood what we wanted, communicated his ideas properly and advised on planning regulations.
